Welcome to the 1st Semester of the 2024-25 school year and to United States History. This is a full year class is required to graduate from Petersburg High School.

United States History Since 1877 Syllabus

Course Description:
This course covers significant events in United States history from 1877 to World War 1

Topics Covered

  • Gilded Age:  
  • Imperialism
  • the Progressive Era
  • World War 1

Required Materials:

  • Textbook: American History (2018 HMH Social Studies)
  • Notebook for notes and assignments
  • Computer 

Grading Policy:
Quarter Grades will be determined by the following components:

  • Tests/Quizzes: 35%
  • Homework: 35%
  • Participation (Weekly Discussions/Class Starters/Cornell Notes): 15%
  • Quarter Project: 15%

Semester Grade:
Semester Grade will be determined by the following components:

  • Quarter 1 - 40%
  • Quater 2. - 40%
  • Semester Final: 20% 

Late Work:  Late work is accepted, but penalized at half credit; however, once the unit test is taken, the unit closes and late work will no longer be accepted.

An excused absence for illness is due a day after the due date.  For example, if a student is sick on Monday and misses an assignment, that assignment is due on Wednesday.

  • 100: A+
  • 99-93: A
  • 92-90: A-
  • 89-88: B+
  • 87-83: B
  • 82-80: B-
  • 79-78: C+
  • 77-73: C
  • 72-70: C
  • 69-68: D+
  • 67-63: D
  • 62-60: D-
  • 59-0: F

  • Preparation: Students are expected to come prepared for each class with necessary materials.

Academic Integrity:
Honesty is an essential aspect of academic integrity. Students are responsible for completing their own work and submitting original assignments as per the course directions.

  • Plagiarism: Defined as "to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own without crediting the source." This includes using information from the Internet without citation. Always acknowledge the source of others' words and ideas.
  • Cheating: Submitting or presenting an assignment created by someone else as your own is strictly prohibited.
